Taylor’s sinker redwood is sourced from the dense old-growth forests of Northern California, each log being reclaimed from the rivers where they’ve sat oftentimes for over a century. Apart from fulfilling the almost universally accepted tenant among luthiers that old wood is good wood, each piece of sinker redwood is scattered with beautiful grain patterns — a welcome side effect resulting from the river’s mineral-rich waters. Plus, while “sustainable” isn’t exactly the right word, this method of wood harvesting allows Taylor to build instruments with ultra-premium aged redwood without felling a single tree!
